The New Generation of Private Practice

The New Generation of Private Practice

Australia’s business landscape is changing - particularly across health and professional services.

According to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics data, Health Care and Social Assistance was the fastest-growing business sector in Australia in 2025–26, increasing by 6.7% to 227,702 businesses.

At the same time, the number of non-employing businesses increased by 4.8%, while employing businesses grew by just 0.2%. Sole proprietorships also increased by 3.1% to more than 848,000 businesses.

It points to a clear shift: more Australians are building businesses around their own expertise, reputation and personal brand.

For practitioners across health, wellness, aesthetics and professional services, that creates enormous opportunity.

But it also raises an important question:

Does building your own business still mean you need to build your own premises?

Private practice is changing

Traditionally, establishing your own practice meant finding a commercial property, signing a lease, completing a fitout, furnishing waiting areas, connecting utilities and taking responsibility for everything from internet and cleaning to security and maintenance.

For larger businesses, that may still make sense.

But an independent psychologist, cosmetic injector, therapist, consultant or allied health professional might only need one exceptional private space to operate their business.

Taking on an entire premises simply to access that space can mean committing significant money and time to infrastructure that doesn't directly generate revenue.

And those overheads matter.

In June 2026, the ABS reported that 46% of Australian businesses had experienced increased operating expenses in the previous four weeks. Among businesses reporting higher costs, 65% identified business overheads as a contributor.

More businesses also means more competition

Growth creates opportunity - but it also gives customers more choice.

Being great at what you do remains essential, but the experience surrounding your service matters too.

Before a client even begins an appointment, they notice the location, entrance, waiting area, privacy, cleanliness and overall presentation.

Your workspace becomes part of your brand.

For independent operators, that can create an awkward choice: remain somewhere that no longer reflects the quality of the business, or take on the cost and complexity of establishing an entire premises.

We don't believe those should be the only options.

A different model of private practice

Elevate Suites was created around a simple idea:

Independent businesses should be able to look established without having to establish an entire premises themselves.

Our private consulting suites and offices allow businesses to operate independently - with their own clients, branding and identity - while sharing the infrastructure around them.

Professional common areas, utilities, internet, cleaning, security and other facilities are already taken care of.

That means more time and resources can stay focused where they matter most: building the business itself.

As Australia's independent health, wellness and professional services sectors continue to grow, the traditional idea of what a private practice should look like is changing too.

The future doesn't necessarily belong to the business with the biggest premises.

It may belong to the business that uses its resources more intelligently.

Build your brand.
Build your reputation.
Build your business. Not your building.

Elevate Suites provides private consulting suites and professional offices across Melbourne for businesses in health, wellness, aesthetics and professional services.
